Wildcard Wednesday: Nouns All Over the Place

From @Honestlyspeakin

There were kitchens all over the place!

Aiden didn’t know what to do. He had tried dancing, shouting, and even inanely shaking a shirt, but nothing worked.

“That’s it,” he told himself. “Stop being so loud. It’s time to do the Loveday family proud.”

Then he kissed and yelled, ”Damn!”

From Captain Phingerspex

There were rumps all over the place!

Gort didn’t know what to do. He had tried pulling, flipping, and even awkwardly shaking a plug, but nothing worked.

“That’s it,” he told himself. “Stop being so suppurating. It’s time to do the Pendular family proud.”

Then he sang and yelled, ”Umpf!”

Template

There were nouns all over the place!

First Name didn’t know what to do. (S)He had tried verbing, verbing, and even adverbly shaking a noun, but nothing worked.

“That’s it,” (s)he told (him/her)self. “Stop being so adjective. It’s time to do the Last Name family proud.”

Then (s)he verbed and yelled, ”Exclamation!”

Again, the wordlist for next week’s story is as follows: Noun, First Name, Verb, Verb, Adverb, Noun, Adjective, Last Name, Verb, Exclamation.

If you have any comments or suggestions about Wildcard Wednesday, please leave a comment so I can see what people think of the feature and work to improve it.

WILDCARD WEDNESDAY WORDLIST: For May 13, 2009

This week’s Wildcard Wednesday Wordlist is as follows:

Noun, First Name, Verb, Verb, Adverb, Noun, Adjective, Last Name, Verb, Exclamation.

About Wildcard Wednesday:

I’ve written a fairly generic “template story,” and I want you to make it interesting by filling in the wildcard words. But here’s the catch: you can’t see the template beforehand!

I’ll take a couple of the submissions that turn out the best and post them to the site this Wednesday.

You can leave your entry in a comment, or send an @reply to @50wordstories on Twitter (and feel free to tag your submission with #wildcardwednesday if you have enough characters left).

WILDCARD WEDNESDAY: Boys Are So…

From @Aabce

The girls sat at the picnic table, watching the boys spin in the lipstick.

“Boys are so effervescent” said Shelly.

“I know!” said Kelly. “Yesterday, my bubbly brother pouted our pet fruit bat’s matchbook!”

“And I used to think he was loud…”

“You did?!” said Kelly. “I’m gonna tell him.”

From @Honestlyspeakin

The girls sat at the picnic table, watching the boys sing in the bath.

“Boys are so pink,” said Shelly.

“I know!” said Kelly. “Yesterday, my ugly brother danced our pet llama’s book!”

“And I used to think he was sad…”

“You did?!” said Kelly. “I’m going to tell him.”

Template

The girls sat at the picnic table, watching the boys verb in the noun.

“Boys are so adjective,” said Shelly.

“I know!” said Kelly. “Yesterday, my adjective brother verbed our pet animal‘s noun!”

“And I used to think he was adjective…”

“You did?!” said Kelly. “I’m going to tell him.”

WILDCARD WEDNESDAY: She Was Feeling Adjective

Today is the first shot at a new feature on Fifty-Word Stories called “Wildcard Wednesday.” The idea behind this feature is to write a fairly generic “template story” with several wildcard words, and then have readers submit words to fill in the wildcards, even though they haven’t seen the story yet.

Below are two of the results from the submissions. They don’t really make sense, but that’s kind of the point. You can also see the template I wrote, so if you want to leave a comment with some words of your own that would make the template story even funnier, then go ahead!

Thanks for submitting, and remember to follow the site and the Twitter feed so you can see the next call for Wildcard submissions.

From @Aaron416

She was feeling blue. She decided to go to the dining hall.

On her way there, she met a small raccoon. It was running amazingly, which she found very frightening. She tried to stop it by giving it a bottle, but it merely drank and kept on going!

She entered.

From Jean

She was feeling scrawny. She decided to go to the treehouse.

On her way there, she met a purple panda. It was kissing passionately, which she found very frightening. She tried to make it stop by giving it a wagon, but it merely wagged and kept on going!

She waned.

Template

She was feeling adjective, so she decided she would go to place.

On her way there, she met an adjective animal. It was verbing adverbly, which she found very frightening. She tried to make it stop by giving it noun, but it merely verbed and kept on going!

She verbed.

NEWS: New Feature – Wildcard Wednesday

Attention, Fifty-Word Fans! There’s a new feature starting up on the stie, something interesting and unique that involves your participation. The feature is called “Wildcard Wednesday,” and it should be a lot of fun!

In the past, I’ve put out calls on Twitter for you to send me a few words, and then I’ve taken those words and incorporated them into a new story. This is similar, but turns the concept on its head. I’ve written a fairly generic “template story,” and I want you to make it interesting by filling in the wildcard words. But here’s the catch: you can’t see the template beforehand!

I’ll take a couple of the submissions that turn out the best and post them to the site this Wednesday. Sound fun? I think so!

Here’s the list of word-types you can fill out for this week’s story, in this order:
Adjective; Place; Adjective; Animal; Verb; Adverb; Noun; Verb; Verb.

You can leave your entry in a comment, or send an @reply to @50wordstories on Twitter (and feel free to tag your submission with #wildcardwednesday if you have enough characters left).
