We will never find out, because it was only seconds later that the feline revolution began and she was dragged back inside her studio apartment and devoured by her beloved cat.

Hand on handle; what lurked behind the door? She waited.

Nothing came. Creak, step, and groan. She twisted the knob, scared.

Nothing came, black, blank, void.

What was behind the door? Her mind was all.

As often as he can be Aaron Black is a freelance blogger and fiction writer. He spent ten years researching and writing a screenplay about Atlantis and now likes short stories because any more rejection letters from studios that made movies like From Justin to Kelly and Catwoman would make him bitter.

Dort awoke naked in a clearing. Snow burned her cuts and bruises as she rose to her hands and knees. She had neither muzzle nor fur, only pale skin and weak muscles.

She sniffed the air and recognized her pack nearby, but they were all human, too.

Cursed and doomed.

Kay Lesgo has worked as a journalist and radio personality, but now makes actual money at an office job.  Kay is currently working on her first novel and several short stories and still wants to be a writer when she grows up.

The umbrella’s plastic penetrated darkness through the girl’s clammy fingers, hissing wicked commands. Nora’s eyes adjusted; she was now aware of the undead body she greedily consumed.

Desperate for rain’s icy kiss, she tossed the umbrella and started running.

Her voice echoed, “I’m coming my love,” down the hollow alleyway.

Lee noticed the thinning during halftime—a fuzz of movement to the left of the TV, colour desaturated, like something was pushing against the air.

The pusher came through during penalty shootout, a sunken, watery stare from behind the plasma screen. Only then did Lee find breath enough to scream.

Flushing my neighbor’s toilet, I eyed the pus colored soap on the sink. Ew, lemon citrus.

I opened the cupboard, scanning for something else. My eyes collided with jars. Jars with eyes, meat and tongues.

The door opened, letting the crisp barbeque smell waft in. “Are you done in there?”

The key suspect in the case was Mrs. Kee, an old granny, always angry and grumpy. Homicide had taken place; an innocent sunflower had been stepped on. She had the perfect motive: she hated anything happy and colourful.

The foot smashing had a perfect imprint of her silk slippers, size 6.

Dressed in black and white, surrounded by fax machines, computers, televisions, all close friends in their lives, they beeped in love when the minister told the laptop he could plug the printer.

Boredom was the real problem. The hunger was annoying, but he always got hungry when he was bored. What he needed, then, was some entertainment.
