CHRIS ALLEN: Christmas is for the Living

Smoke was erupting from his engine. One more press of my trigger and his Messerschmitt would be no more.

I had won the fight, but it was the wrong time to deny a family their son for Christmas.

I banked hard right and into the clouds. The fight could wait.

After eight long years and twenty-four hours of hard labour, he finally arrived at his destination. Cold, and with no clothes to call his own, he screamed at everyone in the room. His demands were food, warmth, and love.

“Come on, wrap baby up nice and warm,” said the nurse.

CHRIS ALLEN: Dad

“Dad, you can’t keep appearing in my bedroom as and when you want. Please respect my privacy.”

Dad just sits there on the end of my bed, nods, and leaves the room. The room suddenly becomes very cold.

Dad passed away over a year ago now. Still seems like yesterday.
