Ghosts constantly visit me, whispering to me about the past.
Family members who have passed on. Friends who have fallen out of touch. Former lovers who haven’t called in years.
Worst of all is the ghost of the man I should have become. He torments me with every waking breath.
A recovering lawyer, Liam MacDonald is constantly pestered by the ghosts of stories he intends to write. At least this one will stop whispering to him now.
Very well observed
Thank you, Joanna. It’s definitely a feeling I wanted to capture accurately.
The best one this year. Well done.
Wow, thank you! There is so much talent on this site, so that means a lot to me!
I like this one. I don’t believe the sentiment holds true for the man I’ve become but I can understand the sentiement.
I am glad to hear the sentiment resonated, even if the experience (fortunately!) didn’t. Thanks for reading.
Love it! So true for many of us.
I think most of us carry a few ghosts around! I’m glad it resonated with you. Thanks for reading.
Well expressed—I think we all have “if only” regrets.
Thank you! I think those “if only” thoughts are part of being human, for better or worse. Thanks for reading.
Excellent story with bittersweet truth. Well done!
I appreciate that. It is definitely a truth that stings a little. Thanks for reading!
Isn’t that the truth! Well done.
Thank you, Ilona! I’m glad the sentiment rang true for you (even if it is a tough truth!).
This right here. The ghosts have been visiting quite frequently since I entered middle age, often leaving me with more questions than answers. Beautifully written, I must say your stories always hit me in the feels.
That means a lot to me. It’s exactly that specific feeling of “visitation” I wanted to capture. Always happy to see you in the comments!
