LYNN KOZLOWSKI: The Professor

The Goldwater Professor of Early European Literature is fourth in line at the checkout. He has bananas, yogurt, low-sodium soy sauce, unsweetened soy milk, and silky tofu. He is wearing a college t-shirt, baggy shorts, and sandals. His mind is on the ordering of the conclusions of his Goethe essay.

Lynn Kozlowski’s writing has appeared in such places as The Citron Review, The Zodiac Review, Molecule, 50-Word Stories, Every Day Fiction, The Dribble Drabble Review, and Friday Flash Fiction. He has a volume of short pieces, Historical Markers.

WENDY MAGES: Faculty Assembly

The faculty’s all smiles, all compliments. Everyone chimes in. Everyone loves and admires our Administrators. Everyone is loyal. All is clean, shiny, bright. At least on the surface. Because everyone knows, or at least suspects, the new faculty hire, the “fair-haired boy” of the Board of Trustees, is a plant.

Wendy K. Mages, a Mercy University Professor, is a Pushcart Prize nominee and an award-winning poet and author. She earned her doctorate in Human Development and Psychology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and her master’s in Theatre at Northwestern University. As part of her investigation of the effect of the arts on learning and development, she performs at storytelling events and festivals in the US and abroad. GEORGE J SEARLES: Sociologist’s Burden

A much-published academic,
Prof. Dennis Wrong was quite a guy.

Filled with truly shrewd polemic,
his several books rank pretty high.

Now this would be all well and fine
but for one point adamantine:

It was for years good ol’ Den’s plight
to be called Wrong though always right.

George J. Searles teaches English and Latin at Mohawk Valley Community College and has also taught for Pratt and The New School. The editor of Glimpse, a poetry magazine, he has published many poems in other small quarterlies, along with three volumes of literary criticism from university presses and eight editions of a widely used communications textbook. He is a former Carnegie Foundation New York State “Professor of the Year.”
