Alone in the Darkness

It was approaching midnight, and Mandy didn’t have a clue where everyone else was. All she could see was darkness; all she could hear was soft sloshing and splashing. Where were they?

Something moved past her leg, startling her. She jumped and screamed: “Marco!”

A chorus of voices replied, “Polo!”

Silent Interstate

“Thanks for the ride,” Missy said, climbing into the idling truck. It was approaching midnight, and she had been stranded on a silent interstate with an empty fuel tank. “Things couldn’t possibly get worse,” she complained.

The stranger grinned wordlessly. At least this one had provided some decent last words.
