Backpfeifengesicht: “face that’s begging to be slapped”. How they’d laughed, learning that, still high on the promise of a new life abroad, bonding over the oddities of the German language. Now, as he corrects her pronunciation for the fifty-millionth time, she feels the full force of the word. Backpfeifengesicht, indeed.
Jennifer Busch rather enjoys the oddities of the German language. Her other favourite German insults include Warmduscher (someone who takes warm showers), Schattenparker (someone who parks in the shade); and the indulgently overlength Handschuhschneeballwerfer (someone who puts gloves on before throwing snowballs).
hillarious!
Ha! Love this.
I love it! Well done.
Brilliant! Got to love the german language!
Too funny! I love you included the words and meanings! When in Germany, I used a little dictionary to help me order lunch with my then boyfriend. I guess it must have come out wrong and the waitress pointed to me and in a loud voice, said what I had just ordered and the whole restaurant laughed. I was SO embarrassed, and put the dictionary away and never tried any German again. As an English language teacher I was hurt to the bone!! Maybe I ordered underpants, I have no idea!!
I am envious of people with the gift of writing comedy! This is brilliantly witty, Jennifer!
Thanks, everyone!
