PIRATE WEEK – BRANDON KING: Memories of the Golden Days

February 23, 2012Amusing, Pirate Week, SubmissionsBrandon King, funny, peg leg, pirate accessories, pirate weekTim

Peggy…

She was the only thing that kept me grounded. She was me only source of stability. One of a kind, she was. A beaut. Without her, I wouldn’t have me sea legs.

Aye, I’ll never find a peg leg like her again. Guess I gotta go shopping for another.

February 23, 2012Amusing, Artistic, Pirate Week, SubmissionsCameron Brown, cannons, fighting the waves, pirate week, stormTim

The rough seas thrashed against the side of the boat. The sky filled with ominous grey clouds.

Men scurried across the deck of the ship. All were dripping and soaked from the monstrous sea forcing itself on board the vessel.

The captain called out, “Cannons at the ready!”

BOOM!  BOOM!

February 23, 2012Amusing, Pirate Week, Submissionschildren, Cole Grinnell, pirate week, smugglingTim

“When I grow up, I want to be a pirate!” the young boy said, beaming up at me just before we boarded the ship.

I smiled as I bent down to straighten his clothes.

“You already are, kid,” I replied, hiding another flintlock under his bulky coat. “You already are.”

Cole Grinnell is letting his work speak for itself.

February 23, 2012Amusing, Pirate Week, Submissionscat, cute, funny, King Kool, kitten, kitty, pirate week, sunbeamTim

Captain Whiskers, the legendary kitty pirate, gave her crew their heading. They would sail west towards Tasmania and its treacherous coral reefs. Tasmania wasn’t their ultimate destination, but they had to continue sailing west so the sun would stay behind them and the captain could keep sleeping in the sunbeam.

King Kool has previously contributed many stories to 50WS.

PIRATE WEEK – CHRIS J. FRIES: Arrrgh, Maybe I Should Join the Union

February 23, 2012Pirate Week, Puns and Wordplay, SubmissionsChris J Fries, PI, pirate week, pun, wageTim

Fanghorn Redbeard was exhausted.  It had been a long first week.

Fifty hours of pillaging, plundering, and marauding had been grueling, but finally it was payday.

He took his check from the clerk and winced: $157.08!?!?

He complained and was told, “Sorry: $3.14159265 per hour is the standard Pi-rate wage.”

Chris Fries is a still-developing writer, working to hone his chops.  He is an Engineer by vocation, a guitarist by avocation, and a writer by compulsion.  His writing blog is StratPlayerCJF.blogspot.com.

February 23, 2012Amusing, Pirate Week, Submissionsfunny, Jake W, parrots, pirate week, shoppingTim

“Gar, I don’t know which one to choose.” Captain Redbeard stroked his beard as he tried to decide. “The red one matches me beard, but the blue one has the brains that I don’t have.”

He thought it over and decided.  “You know what? I’ll get ya both! Let’s go!”

“How can you be so certain?”

“X marks the spot!”

“We’ve dug all over, but we can’t find any treasure.”

“Excuse me, what are you doing?”

“We are digging for treasure.”

“That is no excuse for ruining our giant game of tic tac toe.”

“I know they’re out there Jones… waiting to raid us, gut us to the bowels and throw us into the drink from our burning hulk!”

“Sir, there hasn’t been a pirate in these waters for centuries.”

“It’s a foolish sailor that disregards pirates when mooring this close to Wall Street!”

PIRATE WEEK – GABBY Q.: Persian Coins

February 22, 2012Artistic, Pirate Week, SubmissionsGabby Q, pirate week, walking the plankTim

Pirate swords almost plunging into Savannah’s side push her farther onto the plank. She turns to look at her father, tied to the mast with a pirate’s blade pressed to his neck.

She smiles at him and pats the rare gold coins in her pocket. Shedding a tear, Savannah jumps.
