A Community That Didn’t Appreciate His Art

Nathan Nawlins always walked around with his chest puffed out because it was so full of music. He’d sing you a song at the drop of a hat. (His hat-dropping song was particularly obnoxious.)

The last song he ever sang was titled, “This rag stuffed in my mouth tastes strange.”

The Maritimes in My Mind

I’ve always wanted to dip my toes in the Atlantic Ocean, but I don’t have a car, and besides, I could never afford the gas, so last week I climbed into a box and mailed myself to Prince Edward Island. A red-haired girl read me poetry and sent me back.

What’s In A Name?

A kitten lounged in the sun.

“It’s a kitty cat!” said a little boy. “Can I keep him?”

Mommy smiled. “He’s ours, you know. We got him yesterday!”

“Can we call him Stanley Cup?”

“Yesterday you named him Winnie the Pooh,” said mommy patiently.

“But now I’m more growed up!”
