“What?” I pretend not to know.
“Tell me!” Her voice begins to shake.
I could rebel. Tease. Start a fight. Suggest a doctor. Prescribe a Prozac. Instead, I acquiesce and recite the magic words: “Everything will be all right.”

I am pretty sure I married this woman 45 years ago … and she still does the same “tell me” exercise every couple of months. I still tease her with the answer and get the same response when she gets what she needs.
