Folks at church think it be a sin just to pause by the basement doorway where that type music flowed raw. Our hymns was crumbs compared. But I took me a sip of saxophone, a gulp of jazz piano, and drank myself to heaven. Was blind but now I see.
Beverly C. Lucey prefers to write short pieces because she is always getting interrupted. Her work has been published online and in anthologies.
A crisp revelation. Nice work, Beverly.

Love it! don’t you be tappin’ your toes during the homily! :-)
I’m imagining bringing along my own songs in my mental hymnal. Strange Fruit.
Love it! True Gospel!
Well deserved story of the week – this piece is brilliantly poetic and evocative.
Great Choice for Story of the Month!
Congrats Beverly!
Thank you so much, Kenny. What a lovely note to leave.
I don’t get much time to surf the net of late, but I’ve come back to this one a few times. It’s like I’m there and can smell the atmosphere. Well deserved!
Very nice. Good choice for story of the month.
