A man walks in a desert. Exhausted. Dehydrated.
Near death, he sees a lone flower. Against all odds, it has grown in a lifeless place.
Hope. If a mere flower can survive, so can he.
Years later, with a finger, he brushes its petals. He chuckles. The flower is plastic.

This is great, I loved it. Wish I’d written it. Well done!
Ha! Why did I laugh so hard at that last line. Such profound thoughts to find out it’s plastic. Excellent writing!
A hope and humor filled piece of flash fiction!
Is this story about the migrants who walk across the Southwestern Arizona desert? Did you choose your name because it quenched your thirst? I believe the false flower represents the life so many migrants find in the US — the ones who don’t die along the way. I am not laughing.
Not counting this, my comment is 50 words.
Desperation bringing out the need to believe in something, whether real or not, whether we know it or not, and humorous too. Nicely combined!
Good one!
