Brown-eyed, pink snout, prominent white mark on forehead, frail-looking, peeping out of the cheap red pails and the rancid meat, whining and wailing like a toddler, before locking eyes that collect my sympathy. The tenth adoption. Homecoming. Rain pattering. Pleasant petrichor. Tippy taps, tails wagging, tongues licking and happy songs.

I read this a few times. Am I right that it is a stray dog that is being adopted
Thanks for reading! Yes it is a stray puppy getting adopted.
I thought this was about a puppy adoption but the red pail and rancid meat confused me. A rescue shelter would never put a puppy in a bucket or feed it rancid meat. What am I missing?
The puppy is sitting on the street amidst garbage. And then is noticed by a man who rescues stray dogs. Hope this clarifies!
