When I was young, my father would call out from the bottom of the stairs.
“Are you up there?”
He always wanted to know we were safe.
He’s gone now.
Sometimes, at night, I look up at the sky and say, “Dad, are you up there?”
I know he is.

What an exquisite story – so much understated emotion packed into so few words. This really resonated with me too. Beautiful.

Lovely short story, I lost my Dad in 2009 and he was always calling me from the 1st floor to go down and have dinner.
Thanks, Julio, and I’m so sorry for your loss. Our parents may be gone, but they live on in our hearts and our memories.
