To save the bees, we planted a garden crammed with inviting color. Zinnias, coneflowers, asters, lavender, fuchsia, sunflowers. They buzzed in, purring, and lugged away bags of pollen. Bonus: later, the neighbor with a hive brought a dripping honeycomb, saying thanks.

Grandma, deaf and blind now, could taste, and smile.

It Will All Come Back

A leering face, a dark alley, and a tangy, salty-sweet flavour were all he could remember when he awoke in the hospital bed.

The contents of his wallet said he was Josip Šerić, a wealthy Croatian businessman visiting Chicago.

He didn’t care. All that mattered was finding back that flavour.

A.L.Y.S. was very eager to receive her latest improvement, the capacity to understand taste and flavor. She would not gain nutrients, but she could improve her assimilation into human society.

Unfortunately, the three-course meal Dr. Snyder cooked her went cold as she gleefully refused to stop tasting her empty spoon.
