Telling It Like It Is

“Oh yeah? Well your mama’s so fat she got hired by the fire department so people could fall out of burning apartment buildings and land on her without getting hurt! And she likes it!”

His friends hooted. “Solid comeback, mang!”

I folded my arms and sniffed derisively. “Your mama was so fat she died.”

Philosnowphy

Winter. Thick snowflakes were making an exodus from the wombs of the clouds.

“Existence is suffering, but I believe our essence lives on and ascends to the Cloud Mother to be reborn,” said Seth Snowflake. “Life is a cycle.”

“That’s stupid,” said Sam Snowflake. “Life sucks, and then you melt.”

Best Laid Plans

He poured concrete. He laid bricks. He hammered nails into wood.

He stapled tar paper. He put up siding. He packed insulation into the walls.

He spread out shingles. He rented a truck. He carried boxes. He painted. He assembled furniture.

Then his wife walked out.

He sold the house.

Make Your Choice

Two bodies sway across the living room, their dance accompanied by the soothing strains of Barry Manilow.

“Mmph,” says the woman. “Your chin is… prickly.”

“Yeah,” says the man. “I’m going for sort of an ‘anthropomorphized wombat’ look. Do you like it?”

“…Here’s a razor. Your choice: chin or throat.”

Tell Us a Story

“Tell us a story, Grampa!”

“Alright, kids! Once there was an old man with fourteen grandchildren. He was a grumpy man, so he took all their toys away and burned them. The End.”

“Thanks for the story, Grampa! Can we play dolls now?”

“Sorry, Susie. It was a true story.”

Proposal

“Lights! Camera! Action!”

“Tamara, I’m not very good with words, but I guess what I’m trying to say is… Will you marry me?”

Tamara blushed convincingly. “Really?” she said. “Yes, of course!”

They kissed.

“That’s not how the script goes!” said the director. “Oh, I get it. Congratulations, you two.”

Over the Moon

The cow jumped over the moon.

The rabbit, which had a raging teenager-style crush on the cow, tried to follow. Unfortunately, the rabbit overshot its target and jumped over the sun instead.

They both landed in the ocean. Neither one survived. It was horribly depressing.
